340 Stealth Pump / E85 Fuel
Can the 340 Stealth Pump be used safely in e85 and how much HP will it support?
Yes, the 340 Stealth Pump can run on E85, but with important considerations. E85 increases fuel consumption by 30-35% compared to gasoline, reducing the effective HP capacity of the pump and injectors by the same amount. For example:
Gasoline: Up to 700 FWHP (forced induction) or 900 FWHP (naturally aspirated) in optimized EFI systems.
- E85: Reduce these ratings by 30-35%.
Aeromotive tested the 340 Stealth Pump in E85 at 60 PSI for over 1,000 hours, but frequent filter changes (every 10 run-hours) were required to prevent contamination-related failures. E85’s hygroscopic nature, solvent properties, and potential bio-mass content can clog filters, creating severe flow restrictions. Blocked filters cause excessive pressure (up to 90 PSI), high current draw, overheating, and rapid pump failure.
WARNING: Proper filtration and maintenance are critical when using E85. Failure to replace filters frequently voids the warranty, as clogged filters are not a pump defect. If you cannot maintain proper filtration, Aeromotive does not recommend using E85 with the 340 Stealth Pump.
