Pump Rated For More Horsepower / Naturally Aspirated vs. Forced Induction Engine
Why are Aeromotive fuel pumps rated for more horsepower on a naturally aspirated engine than they are for a forced induction engine?
Two factors impact an electric fuel pump's horsepower support: max pressure and engine accessory load. Higher pressures in forced induction EFI systems reduce pump flow, while accessories like superchargers or turbochargers consume engine power, increasing fuel demands. Superchargers use belt-driven HP, and turbochargers create pumping losses via exhaust back pressure.
Electric fuel pumps must be de-rated for forced induction as they support less flywheel HP, though cylinder HP support remains similar. For accurate compensation methods, ask to talk to a Tech.
