Dead Head Blocking Regulator / Return Line / Outlet Ports
I have a dead-head (blocking) style regulator and I want to run a return line. Will it work if I connect a return line to one of the spare outlet ports on the regulator and run it back to the tank?
No, this won’t work. An open return line from a static regulator’s outlet port prevents proper pressure control, causing low or no pressure at idle and under load. Static regulators are designed to close when pressure is reached, unlike bypass regulators. An open line stops pressure from building at the carburetor needle and seat, akin to running a line into a bucket—flow occurs, but pressure remains low or nonexistent.
A return line can only connect to a static regulator through a highly restrictive jet (0.015"-0.017") to prevent pressure creep on nitrous systems. For optimal performance, use a proper bypass regulator—Aeromotive offers advanced options for carbureted engines.
