Pressure Spikes / Engine Floods / Static Regulator
I’m using a static (non-bypass) regulator and every once in a while the pressure spikes, going past the set point and pegging the gauge, flooding the engine. What’s wrong?
This issue, called pressure creep, occurs when the regulator fails to seal and stop flow at the set pressure. A static regulator must fully close to control pressure, especially with a dead-head pump designed for 14-21 PSI. Debris in the regulator valve often causes leakage, leading to pressure buildup, float sinking, and engine flooding.
To fix, clean the regulator or use a rebuild kit with a replacement valve. Aeromotive provides rebuild kits for all their static regulators.
