EFI Engine Conversion To Carburetor / Knock Pressure Down
I want to convert my EFI engine to a carburetor, how can I “knock the pressure down” coming out of my EFI pump? What Aeromotive regulator should I use for this?
A common misconception is that fuel pumps "put out" pressure. Instead, think of them as providing flow. A bypass regulator creates pressure by restricting flow, forcing the pump to reach the set pressure. Once achieved, excess flow is diverted through the return line to maintain pressure.
The Aeromotive 13301 regulator can handle most medium to large in-tank EFI pumps, but the return line must be large enough. Stock EFI return lines are often too small for carburetor conversions, causing backpressure. Use at least a -06 AN (3/8") return line for small pumps and -08 AN (1/2") for larger ones. When unsure, opt for the larger -08 AN line for optimal performance.
